Governor

Alan MacQuarrie – Governor District 7

Fellow Kin,

My name is Allan MacQuarrie, and I am deeply honoured to be your 2020-2021 Governor. The opportunity to represent Kin Canada’s District 7 in this role is truly a privilege and is not taken lightly.

I am originally from Cape Breton but have lived in Newfoundland and now reside in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. I am the proud father of two amazing daughters and have served Kin Canada for over 20 years as a member of the Kinsmen Club of New Glasgow. In 2012, I received a master’s degree in business from St. Mary’s University in Halifax and have been employed by Sobeys for the past 29 years.

As our Association celebrates 101 years, District 7 will celebrate our 85th year of serving the community’s greatest need. Over the years, most Governors have encountered events that changed the plans they had in place for their year. We were witness to it this past year as Governor Pat Bowers steered us through a pandemic. Although it was not the year he had expected, we were fortunate to have him at the helm.

This past year has proven to be one of the most challenging ones in recent memory and Covid-19 has forced us to re-examine many things that we took for granted. Members have been seeking change for years. The time for change has come.

In the 2020-2021 Kin year, we will not simply go back to our roots. This will be the year that we find out how deep our roots have grown over the last 85 years. We must regroup, reenergize, reengage and grow District 7. We have built the best service organization in Canada and have always been there when needed most. Although the pandemic is not over, this is the time to demonstrate our resilience and ability to adapt. Our 85th year will be filled with opportunities and challenges and I am excited to be your Governor during this time.

There will no doubt be more challenges throughout the upcoming year but know that the entire District 7 Council will be here to help. We will assist in educating the membership, draw on personal experiences and utilize skills needed for us to be successful in this “new normal”. We will openly share information from province to province and club to club. Your successes will be our successes and we will be stronger together.

I look forward to meeting you all this coming year and encourage you to share your thoughts, ideas and opinions.

Yours in Kin,

Al MacQuarrie

Governor – District 7
