Deborah was born in St John’s, NL and grew up in what was fondly referred to as “rabbit town”. However, she became a resident in the City of Mt. Pearl approx. 12 years ago. Deborah has also lived in New Brunswick and Alberta, yet, Newfoundland and Labrador will always be her true home!
Deborah graduated from Bishops College High School, where she spent most of her time in the gym, either playing sports or practising routines with the cheerleading squad.
Many years later, after having 2 beautiful children (a son and a daughter), Deborah enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce Degree program at Memorial University. Unfortunately, when faced with a sudden “change” in her marital status, she decided to leave MUN, with her Diploma in Business, to return to the work force in order to financially support her young family. She now has 3 precious grandsons (Coby, Brody & Bradyn), all living close to her and she loves being called “nanny”!
Deborah has spent the last 35+ years in her career as a travel consultant and has been lucky enough to have travelled to many places, such as Austria, England, The Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Slovakia, Costa Rica, many of the islands in the Caribbean, the USA and of course other provinces in Canada.
In 2014, Deborah felt there was still something missing in her life, so, she started looking for a volunteer organization in her community. She came upon a website for the Kinette Club of Mt Pearl and it piqued her interest. Thankfully, Kinette Wanda Rees had her email address on the site. Deborah contacted her right away and enquired about attending a meeting. When she walked in to that first meeting, a total stranger, and everyone welcomed her with open arms and hugs, she knew she was in the right place!
She was installed as a new member of Kin Canada on 02Feb’15. Since joining Kin, Deborah has held the following positions at Club and Zone levels: Club Secretary, Club Vice President, Club President, Club Past President, District 7 Zone D Membership Director and now Deputy Governor.
Deborah has received the Rookie of the Year Award; Maple Leaf Award; Outstanding Club & Boake Efficiency Awards; Richard Levandier Memorial Outstanding President of the Year Award and is working on her Founders Award for Achievement.
Deborah and her team are excited and looking forward to working with and visiting all the Clubs of Zone D over the next year!
